SVA FMF 2023 Adopt a Block Announcement
SVA Members and SVAFMF Pre-screeners,
Please join us via Zoom for the announcement of the 2023 SVA Film and Media Festival program and launch of our “adopt a block” initiative. This initiative aims to get word out to colleagues in other AAA sections in order to increase in-person attendance at the festival in Toronto. In short, we’re looking to enlist your help in promoting the festival to AAA members beyond SVA.

Adopt a Block Process
Here’s the process we envision. During the Zoom we’ll walk through these steps, answer questions, and take suggestions. This is the first time SVAFMF is doing this so your input is very welcome!

At the bottom of the browser window, you’ll see two tabs: one with the program schedule showing the themed blocks; and one with titles and synopses of all 52 films in this year’s festival. Review them both for films you’re interested in promoting.
§ Pick a film or block of films you’d like to “adopt.” Then, email your pick(s) to SVAFMF staff at: svafilmfestival@gmail.com with “Adopt” in the subject line.
§ Once your adoption has been confirmed, identify AAA sections and interest groups for whom the film(s) you’ve picked are relevant. You might want to consult the list of sections: https://americananthro.org/membership/sections/
§ Find the names and email addresses of section presidents or their communications lead.
§ Prepare an email promoting the film with the day and time it will be shown in Toronto and send it to the leadership of each section you’ve identified asking them to share it with their members. We’ll talk about what this email should include and aim to draft a template with sample language during the Zoom meeting.
