The Amherst College Department of Women’s and Gender Studies seeks to appoint a full-time Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (tenure-track or tenured) to begin in the fall of 2010. “Images and Textualities” suggests a focus on interactive media, such as written or printed texts, pictures (including art) or film; the Global South is defined as Africa, the Middle East, Asia or Latin America. The person hired must have completed her/his PhD, in a humanities discipline, by the time of appointment. A degree from an interdisciplinary program such as Women’s Studies, Ethnic Studies, Black Studies, Cultural Studies, Film/Media Studies or the various Area Studies would be acceptable provided the person’s main expertise is in the humanities. We would also entertain applications from social scientists with a strong humanities focus, though our already existing strengths in history and political science preclude hiring in those two fields. The Department of Communication and Culture at Indiana University-Bloomington has been authorized to hire a Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2009-2010 academic year (August 2009-May 2010) to teach courses in digital media and television studies. Intermedia as a fourth production stream in its highly selective
undergraduate program, to complement established offerings in Film,
Video, and Sound. This innovation has been broadly conceived to take
account of the massive changes wrought by “the computerization of
culture” in the arts, in professional practice, and in the academy.
Our adoption of the term ‘intermedia’ is intended to address a
confluence of media practices ? diverse, hybrid, liminal, analog and
digital ? that cannot be easily captured in any one, established

Job Description:
The Liberal Arts Department at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan invites applications for a full-time faculty member in Visual Culture/Critical Studies (Non-Western). We are looking to hire an individual who can contribute to the excellence of the academic community through his/her active research agenda, exceptional teaching, and enthusiastic service to the college and the Detroit community. The members of the department are committed to the investigation of art and visual culture from a wide range of theoretical perspectives within historical context(s). Interested candidates should have a non-western subject specialty and be capable of teaching a broad spectrum of subjects and themes including a range of visual culture courses in historic or contemporary periods; History of Design and/or Graphic Design; Film, Media Studies, Semiotics, Ethnic Studies; and at least one interdisciplinary freshmen seminar each semester. A full-time position represents a 3-course load per semester, as well as participation on departmental and institutional committees. As a small department in the midst of curriculum renewal, we are looking for colleagues who are comfortable with contemporary educational principles in curriculum design, assessment, and learner centered teaching. The Flaherty/International Film Seminars is seeking a detail-oriented, self-starter for the position of Program and Administrative Manager.

The Flaherty is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the proposition that independent media can illuminate the human spirit. The Flaherty presents the annual Robert Flaherty Film Seminar (coming up on its 55th year) and also produces year round screening programs and events in New York City. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Program and Administrative Manager will be responsible for managing daily office operations, as well as assisting in the management and implementation of the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar and other Flaherty programs.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the logistics of Flaherty programs including the Seminar, Leo Awards, and Flaherty on the Road screenings;
• Write, edit and circulate monthly e-newsletter blasts and update website with current program information as needed;
• Coordinate the production of printed materials, including the annual friends drive letter, program flyers, and the postcard, brochure, and catalogue for the Seminar;
• Secure and foster new relationships with media outlets, non-profit media organizations, and universities, for outreach and promotion of our programs;
• Manage the office’s purchasing and contracting activities and day-to-day operations;
• Create program timelines and deadlines in order to assure successful events;
• Answer email and phone inquiries regarding the Flaherty Seminar and the organization;
• Secure and supervise seasonal staff and interns throughout the year;
• Interact with board members, donors, vendors, film/video artists, etc.;
• Assist the Executive Director in developing and coordinating other projects, such as screenings, publicity, film distribution, archiving and restoration.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree and at least three years relevant experience in an office environment;
• Program management, personnel supervision and organizational leadership experience a must;
• Proven experience in juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Must be a self-starter, detail-oriented, and able to work independently;
• Must be computer/internet proficient (MAC-based office): Word, Excel, FileMaker Pro;
• Knowledge of financial management (Quickbooks) and Web-programs (Dreamweaver) helpful.

This is a full time position with good benefits.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
