The Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks to fill a tenure-track, junior position (Assistant Professor) in the area of the anthropology of media to begin July 1, 2013. Suitable applicants should be engaged in analytically rich and ethnographically-driven research on topics concerning the production, circulation, and uptake of media artifacts, aesthetic forms, and practices. Areas of specialization we are interested in span both “old” media (print, radio, TV, film) and “new” media (Internet, smart phones). Active participation in both undergraduate and PhD programs, teaching both introductory and upper division courses, as well as graduate seminars is expected.

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Victoria–a vibrant department with a new PhD program centred on integrative themes that cross-cut anthropology’s traditional sub-disciplines–invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in the area of sociocultural anthropology. We seek an individual whose primary research and teaching interests will contribute strength toward our “Visual Anthropology & Materiality” program theme (http://anthropology.uvic.ca/research/integrative_themes.php). The successful applicant will benefit from the department’s dedicated visual research and teaching labs and may benefit in either research or teaching from access to the university’s visual collections and those of the neighbouring BC Archives and Royal BC Museum.

The appointment, effective July 1, 2012, will be made at the rank of assistant professor. We expect candidates to have a PhD in hand, though outstanding ABD candidates may be considered. The four course (1.5 unit each) annual teaching commitment comes with the expectation that the successful candidate will be actively engaged in research and graduate student mentoring. We seek a colleague who has: demonstrated proficiency in visual methods; demonstrated excellence in UG teaching and excellent potential for graduate teaching and mentoring; demonstrated evidence of strong scholarship in the form of publications, multimedia productions or exhibitions; an active or well formulated plans for a continuing research program and potential for involving students in research; and a demonstrated ability or strong potential to attract external research funding. Cultural Anthropology

College of the Atlantic seeks a full-time faculty member in Cultural Anthropology to teach a wide range of classes in anthropology and who is also able to teach courses in social theory. The area of geographic specialization is open. Courses are especially needed in: ethnography; research design and methods; social theory; and race/class/gender. The faculty seek a colleague who will help undergraduates understand and learn from the diversity of human cultures, and who can collaborate with other faculty to enhance the College’s curriculum in Human Ecology. The Bard Graduate Center and the American Museum of Natural History
announce a Research Fellowship in Museum Anthropology. The fellowship provides
support to a postdoctoral investigator to carry out a specific project over
a two-year period. The program is designed to advance the training of the
participant by having her/him pursue a project in association with a curator
in the Division of Anthropology at the American Museum of Natural History
(AMNH). The Fellow will also be expected to teach one graduate-level course
per year at the Bard Graduate Center (BGC). The Fellow will thus be in joint
residence at BGC and AMNH, beginning in September 2010 and continuing
through June 2012. The fellowship includes free housing.

A major purpose of the BGC-AMNH Research Fellowship in Museum Anthropology
is to promote mutual scholarly interest and interaction among fellows, BGC
faculty and students, and AMNH staff members. Candidates for Research Fellow
are judged primarily on their research abilities and experience, and on the
merits and scope of the proposed research.
