We are pleased to announce that the submissions portal for the biennial SCA-SVA conference is now open!

We welcome panel submissions working across a variety of media – panels/talks, video, sound, animation, and other creative formats. The deadline for submissions in January 24, 2022.

Many of the core tenets of scholarly publishing (e.g., unpaid labor of editors and peer reviewers) presume a world that simply does not exist (for most of us) anymore. The academic labor market is constricted. Institutions are not incentivizing the work of editorial labor. Our own scholarly societies are strapped thin. All of this begs the question: What is the future of scholarly publishing and how/ why should we invest in it?

Ira’s ethnographic fieldwork was primarily in the Northwest Coast area among the Kwakwaka‘wakw of Alert Bay but he also explored the history of the Japanese tea ceremony as well as Japanese folk crafts.
