Maasai Migrants was produced originally for Maasai to show them the dangers of urban migration. It depicts conditions of ex-pastoralists who like millions of others worldwide have been forced by poverty from their traditional homesteads. Urban Maasai men are now marginally employed as hairdressers and night watchmen. Women sell beadwork and snuff by a city dump: they are disempowered, dependent, and have no relatives nearby.
