For the first time in many years, on the small island of Motalava, north of Vanuatu, a new song is going to be written in the island’s ancestral language - the language of God Quat - and will become part of the custom. Even more surprising, this new traditional chant has been written to honour a young white man, known as Alex by everyone on the island.
