| Americo Paredes Center for Cultural Studies The Americo Paredes Center for Cultural Studies (APCCS) has a long history of fostering interdisciplinary approaches to the study of varied cultural forms. APCCS is located in UT Austin's Department of Anthropology, the only anthropology program in the US that offers M.A. and Ph.D. degrees with a graduate concentration in Folklore and Public Culture. Graduates leave the program with a degree in Anthropology and a doctoral portfolio in Cultural Studies. APCCS offers graduate students unique and creative outlets for their research, including a journal and yearly research colloquia. |

| Ethnographic Film Unit at the University of British Columbia, Department of Anthropology We are a video production unit within the Department of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. The Film Unit draws upon the combined strengths of anthropologists, filmmakers, students, and community members.We use the language of documentary video to explore issues of environmentally and socially responsible resource use that prioritizes collaborative community-based practise. The videos are an active research tool; a catalyst for conversation and for deeper enquiry. They are also an end product, a broadcast-quality video for use in highschool and university classrooms, conferences, workshops, and film festivals. |

| Harvard University, Department of Anthropology In addition to a Secondary Field in Film & Visual Studies, the Department of Anthropology now offers a PhD in Social Anthropology (with Media) for students who wish to undertake practice-based research, and make substantial ethnographic use of audiovisual media in their doctoral work. This track is open to all Social Anthropology doctoral students. Media anthropology students are regular members of the graduate program in social anthropology, and all requirements for the Ph.D. in anthropology pertain to those specializing in media anthropology. Application to the program is the same as for application to the Social Anthropology Ph.D. program, and follows the usual procedures for applications to the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, including GRE examinations. |
| Master's Program in Visual Anthropology - PUCP- Peru The Master’s Program in Visual Anthropology seeks to generate research on issues related to visual, material, and sound practices in Peru and around the Andean region. Therefore, it takes into account the interrelationship between visual media and other types of media, how the visual relates to the senses and to the aesthetic experience, and its potential as a mechanism for mediation between different actors and cultures. The program aims to rescue visuality as a fundamental aspect of social, economic and political life, and of the interaction between culturally and socially diverse groups. The master’s program provides the students with an education in visual research, production and applied visual methodologies that are based on an intercultural perspective and ethnographic research. |

| Sound Image Culture (SIC) The art laboratory Sound Image Culture (SIC) helpsvisual anthropologists, anthropologists and artists to develop their art orfilm projects which are inspired by either anthropological methods orsubjects. The SIC master class involves nine months of coaching throughcollective seminars, individual advising, group critiques, and inter-artistdialogue. | Temple University, Department of Anthropology Temple University's Department of Anthropology has long been known, both nationally and internationally, for its specialization in the anthropology of visual communication. We offer this specialization to undergraduate majors and minors as well as to graduate students in anthropology at the master's and doctoral levels. The anthropology of visual communication is concerned with the production, distribution, reception, circulation, and transformation of visual forms, both within and across communities. Areas of ethnographic and theoretical focus include events such as rituals, spectacles, and performances; works of art, architecture, clothing, and the body; museums, displays, and expositions; films, videos, and photography; indigenous media; and "new media." |

| University of Southern California Certificate, Visual AnthropologyThe certificate is an interdisciplinary program, with training in digital video production provided by the USC School of Cinema-Television. Professional skills in video production are designed to help students present their research results to a wider audience and to use visual media effectively in communicating ideas about anthropology. After completing fieldwork, students take a year-long editing sequence and practicum (ANTH 576 and 577) to finish a visual project, which will complement the written dissertation.) Students can be admitted to the certificate program in visual anthropology after they have completed their Ph.D. qualifying examinations. |
