2013 Visual Research Conference
The Visual Research Conference takes place on Monday evening, Tuesday, and Wednesday until early afternoon during the week of the AAA Annual Meeting. Submissions are taken through our own on-line system (see submission form below).
THE 2013 DEADLINE FOR VISUAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE SUBMISSIONS IS MIDNIGHT MARCH 31, 2013, GUAM TIME.
The Visual Research Conference does not involve paper reading, with a question or two at the end, in contrast to the AAA Annual Meeting “scientific sessions”. We are trying to maximize the opportunity to be co-present with each other, so a Visual Research Conference presentation of 45 minutes will typically include three or four several-minute modules of visual research-in-progress, augmented by much back-and-forth discussion with an actively-participating audience. We seek submissions based on anthropological and anthropologically-related research methods, theories, and topics in the study of visual communication, visual signification, or visual forms of representation. And we encourage the plentiful use of visual materials in Visual Research Conference presentations.
For more information on the format of this lively event and how to submit a presentation, visit our page on the SVA web site or contact Dr. Tom Blakely (firstname.lastname@example.org), Dr. Andrea Heckman (email@example.com), or Dr. Jerome Crowder (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Deadline for Visual Research Conference Submissions is 11:59pm, March 31, 2013, Guam time. All applicants must submit their proposals electronically using the SVA website submissions form. NOTE: This deadline is NOT the same deadline as the AAA deadline of April 15, 2012. IT IS AN EARLIER DEADLINE so that each proposal can be carefully and sympathetically discussed by the committee, invitations made, recommendations for appropriate alternative venues given, and AAA submission deadlines met.
Presentation Proposal Submission Form [closed for 2013]
Enter your name, affiliation, address, e-mail address(es), phone number(s), presentation title, presentation abstract, and the nature of the visual material in your presentation (VHS video, DVD, slides, computer projection, etc. This is important. If you do not mention in advance that you need computer projection, none will be available.) All submissions to the conference must be made through this form even if you have made prior personal contact with Dr. Blakely, Dr. Heckman, or Dr. Crowder.
